Tabula Rasa

I have this theory regarding television shows, especially sci-fi ones, that if they run for long enough, they will have an episode named Tabula Rasa. Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Criminal Minds, Stargate: Atlantis, Lost, Law and Order, Justice League, and many more have all done it.

But why?

While the Latin phrase pretty much means ‘blank slate’, it is also the label given to the idea that humans are born with out any “mental content” - basically saying that in a nature vs nurture comparison, nature has no bearing on personality, behaviour, etc.

So these TV shows use this title for episodes about mind control, starting over, establishing a new colony in new lands or on a new planet, or when a character develops amnesia.

So what?

None of this is relevant to me, what I do, or this blog. I just really like the way the words sound, and since I needed a first-post for this site after deciding to start over without any of the posts from the old Wordpress site, I figured Tabula Rasa would be a fitting title.
